They
say she was found in February of 2005 and taken to a local dog
shelter. She would have only been about 10 or 11 months old at
that time. No one knows how long she had been wandering but
she hadn’t been groomed for a very long time, if ever. Maggie
was adopted from the shelter but returned. Fortunately she was
noticed and claimed by the loving terrier-folk of Oklahoma
Westie Rescue.
We just think Maggie was
supposed to come to us for her forever home. A couple of other
rescue applicants had identified her for their own homes but
for some reason both had fallen through. She weighed 14.5
pounds the day she came to us. She had been bathed and
groomed. She came with a collar, the funniest little elfish
face, a loving heart, a sweet disposition, rabies tags, and a
heart begging to be loved and protected. And then there was
Revie.
Revie,
excuse me, Andale’s Friskin Reviresco, took one look at
this...this “puppy” and his nose moved immediately to the “out
of joint” position. It took about 3
days. Then he began to push back when she poked her nose at
him to play. When she offered a pull toy, he took the other
end and so it began. Now, six weeks later, he can’t imagine
life without his little sister, her Robin to his Batman. They
are the dynamic duo in white!
From the beginning my husband
was the one who questioned whether bringing a second Westie
into the house was wise. He said he would reserve judgment
until she had spent a weekend with us. He didn’t have a
chance. Little Maggie knew more about love than obstacles. She
seemed to understand that this was her “big break” and she
intuitively knew who needed her attention. I saw, actually SAW
him melt....smart little doggie girl! Maggie came to us named
M&M, part Maggie, part Molly, and I called her both names
alternately until she answered to one: Maggie, aka Little Miss
Maggie Mae. She is part of our family now, happy, more
healthy, and hopefully a bit more secure every day. She and
Revie are devoted to each other, confirmed friends, comrades
in arms, squirrel chasers extraordinaire.
