Happy Endings - Maggie

On August 6, 2005 after being without any pets for 18 years, I adopted my sweet Maggie. She had spent 7 years as a kennel mother and was somewhat overwhelmed by the new world she confronted. She didn't know about people, cars, houses, furniture, loud music or playing with other dogs and a toy was a completely useless object. In the 3 1/2 months I have had her we have learned a lot! She now knows that other people are nice and she loves to be petted and even picked up. Sofas and chairs are no longer objects to be avoided. They are fun to jump on and they make nice soft cozy beds!! At the dog park, Maggie plays chase and runs around with all the other dogs. She has recently, all of a sudden, become fascinated by squeaky toys, even though they had been laying around for about the last 2 1/2 months being completely ignored. When I throw them she chases them and bites down to make them squeak.  I pretend I am "gonna get it" and she runs through the bedroom, down the hall and back into the family room hoping I chase her all the way. I get totally exhausted but she has fun, real fun, just like a "regular" dog!

Maggie is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. I am so grateful that I have her. When she looks up at me with those big black beautiful eyes, I wish I could read her mind and know what all she is thinking. I hope that she is as happy with me as I am with her.
